Nitric oxide vibrationally excited levels and controlling processes in the Earth’s upper atmosphere during the daytime

The nitric oxide vibrationally excited levels in the daytime are studied, at altitudes between 80 and 200 km. For that, we use a coupled 1D Boltzmann kinetic-fluid model to find density profiles of major ions: O2+;N2+;NO+;N+;O+, nitrogen atoms: N(4S);N(2D) levels: NO(v⩽7). A variety processes included calculations that neutrals chemistry, ions photoabsorption, energetic electrons acting on neutral atmosphere, molecular diffusion, turbulent diffusion transport. vibrational excitation is under strong solar control, reaching its maximum value near noon, when zenith angle has smallest then decreases away from noon. Data measurements NO 5.3 μm volume emission rate (VER) provided by SABER (Sounding Atmosphere using Broadband Emission Radiometry) satellite instrument corroborate our numerical results.
